How Much Time Do We Have?

"we only have 12 years left before climate change becomes irreversible." - IPCC

Well... how much time will we have to stop this? Only 12 years? That's not a lot of time.

Before you freak out about this, the time left can vary. How? It depends how much action we take, and how important the climate crisis is to us. It could be from 5 years to 50 years left, for all we know! Really, the time left doesn't matter, its about the time we make now. Its about how much progress we make every day. We need to think about now, and the time we make out of it. The good news is that people all over the world are getting more and more aware about this issue and are starting to take action.

While that may be good, but NASA indicates that global warming will still continue for years, if not centuries, even if we take our emissions to zero right this second.

You might be wondering... what's the point of taking action if global warming will continue for years? If we take action now and get the world's emissions to zero, there will be less time suffering from climate change and more time rebuilding from previous disasters. Humanity will survive longer, and we will have more time to do good things to our world.

The sooner we take action, the less time we need to worry about the climate crisis.
